Spin wool or weave. There doesn't seem to be a catagory for this.

I have spun wool, primarily for years. Specialize in spinning in the grease. (That does sounds gross, doesn't it?) I like to use natural dyes and safe mordants.

Would love to exchange ideas and thoughts, plans, booboos in spinning. And what you do with the yarn.

I have a couple friends who spin and weave and are in a "group", "guild" or "society" of some kind. *I've only done it enough to give demonstrations at the Museum. *I got pretty good with a drop spindle. *If you have any problems Pine, I'd be happy to get with them on your behalf. *One friend grows his own cotton and uses it.

I spin, knit, weave and love blending batts on my PG Drum Carder. Grease is not for me, I prefer prepped roving.

I love my Kromski Minstrel and my Schacht RH Loom! I'd love to get a Union Rug Loom but there don't seem to be any available used around here. Maybe on that long trip across country I'll find one off Craigslist.

Thanks for the replies. I have 2 wheels, my little traveler and my Rich reeves Stand Up. My traveler is a single drive with a jumbo mother. It is great when I demonstrate or go to the group meetings. After my medical "event", I had to relearn to spin reversing from right hand to left.

I do not have sheep but many of our group does so I have access to wool. I also have a carder which does move the wool preparation along. I like to spin "in the grease" for hats and mittens so they are virtually waterproof.

I have been forced to sell my 4 harness loom (sigh) but kept my rigid heddle and triangle looms. Unfortunately I have not been able to reteach myself to knit but I do have a manual knitting machine so I hope to be able to use that.I can knit a sweater in about 4 hours with my own wool and it is "green" so no electricity.

Let's try to keep up with our projects.

Pine, I just got a spinning wheel at a yard sale a week ago so am a newbie. I have a couple spinning books that should be here any day also. The lady I bought it from gave me about an hour lesson right there. :) It is an Ashford Traditional. What fun!!!

Hi! I have an Ashford traditional wheel and I raise Angora rabbits (and latch on to any other hair and fur I can, like from friends you have a petting zoo and gave me camel and yak and all kinds of different things to experiment with!!!)

Aunt Jenny on the forum here is a great spinner. if I could spin like her I would be happy happy happy! I would still classify myself as a beginner even though I got my wheel about eight years ago.

I learned to knit about that time as well. I've made all sorts of SIMPLE things to sell in our little farm store like scarves (especially Christmas ones) and right now I am knitting bears (that are all done on two needles except the arms which are done seperately) from a basic pattern I got from the Knitty Gritty TV show. I adapted the pattern and made them larger and am making them in the colors of our county's high schools. I'm not putting any initials or anything on them, so I can sell them legally, but am doing them in the different school colors....that's been a lot of fun!

I just got a drop spindle but for the life of me I just can't figure out how it's done. I tried watching youtube, but I think I need someone in real life to show me. Someday I would like to get a wheel, and learn that.

I've never spun or woven myself but when I was married we had a shop and sold Harrisville, Asford, and Leclerc wheels and looms. I've built more than my fair share of wheels and looms plus we jad sheep and did custom carding. The ex was written up in a book on spinning dog hair. That was core spinning, and I don't know if she still does it or not.

Skids,

I had an Ashford Traditional. It is a good wheel but I sold it when I bought my Rick Reeves double drive. I had been lusting over that one for a long time. I bought it on ebay. Was in the same state I live in so I went and picked it up.

I am curently working on the Traveler. It is yarn for some footies I intend to felt. I bought a front loader washer and now have to be careful in felting until I get used to it.
