Years ago I bought a long handled garden spade from Smith and Hawken. Mine was like the ones they sell ad the D handled ones today but it had a long handle. It has been a good tool over these years but it has finally given up the ghost. Doesn't anyone know who might sell spades such as these now days?

Thanks

I have a new spade that is now my favorite because I can dig a long time and not get so tired. *It's a Fiskar's spade - it has the D handle, and the top of it has a broad step to make it easier on your foot and it's solid steel. * You might check that out for your next spade - should last a good long time!

That looks like it might have possibilities but I'm looking for something with a square point. I find they're much more useful when chopping through roots and such that I encounter while digging. The extra length of the long straight handle makes it like a spear that can be propelled right through the roots and it saves time by not having to go get another tool. I like the long handles too because they are more comfortable for me to use.

Yes, for roots and such you probably need something different. This works great for the garden work I have around here.
