I am trying an experiment and wondered if any of you have tried and have any feedback about this. It has been warm here for the past couple of days and I've started thinking about fresh tomatoes off the vine. I want to start some heirloom tomatoes I bought this winter but don't have a greenhouse to do so. I've tried the windowsill thing before and the plants are always tall spindly and die. I've read online about growing indoors but don't have a light setup type thing going. We had a fish die a couple of months ago and still have the two gallon aquarium sitting in a closet. I'm going to try three plants in the small aquarium and see how the light affects them. Anybody tried the aquarium for starting tomato plants?

Some aquariums can have lights for growing aquatic plants that would be perfect for plant starting in my opinion. I am also itching to start some plants. My eldest son has a 40 gal. aquarium stored here at my house since his divorce with grow lights and all. I told him I was gonna use it to start plants in, he said the light was good for plants as he had plant in it when he had it all set up with fish about a year ago. If you line the bottom with something to keep the tray from scratching the glass it would be a good idea. He has his for sale now so that shot my idea. Also you would not want to put fertilizer in the plant mix as it will contaminate the water for fish in the future if you should choose to have fishes again. Good luck, keep us posted on how they turn out.
