Geez, I wish spring would get here, I cannot wait to start my garden this year!
Ok, my question is, when my Gramma moved out and we moved in, unbenounced to us, she left alot of canned tomatoes in the basement. I know they're over 5 years old, because that's how long we've lived here and some of them could be 20 years or more. And since none of them is labled, I have no idea which is which. I don't want to mention to her what we found because she would probably want to eat them and I'm not sure that's a good idea. I was thinking about emptying the jars in the garden and having the ol' man till them under when he tills the garden this year. Is this a good idea? I know it's not exactly composting, but it seems better than just throwing them away. Thoughts?

That's exactly what i would do with them! I've done it many times here myself...

Sounds like a good time to buy a pig and start feeding him some slop. In the past we have raised hogs to butcher and I would empty out canned food that had been canned too long a little at a time and supplement the hogs feeding with it and I always raised 400 lb hogs to butcher every year. Just another thought. Of course they got nothing but corn and water for about a month before slaughter.
