Ok, so while we're out this morning buying our first cultivator tiller (YAY!! :D :D Less shoveling in the concrete dirt!!) I see Miracle Grow Organic Fertilizer, I'm intrigued, so I begin to read the label. Says it's made out of "poultry litter", which made me giggle because I found that to be a very pc way of saying that.
Now I'm not really a Miracle Grow fan, but wondered what your thoughts were on this.
Now what about bagged Manure like you would buy at Menard's? Can I buy that and just mix it into my soil instead of fertilizer? How long will it continue to fertilize my garden?
We are planning on starting to compost, but that won't really help us this year and I'm not sure I can compost enough for my entire garden, being I'm in the city space is tight. Real tight.
Thanks for any and all help, I've always tried to garden as naturally as possible, but now we'd really like to go as organic as possible.

I would think that the reason they use poultry litter is because it's really hot when fresh. You could make a little go a long way if adding carbon to it.
Around here Home Depot sells "Black "Cow" which is rotted or cooled down cow manure.
Most likely it's all about the same. I've done it myself as $$$ allows only here I have a very sandy soil that seems to "eat" organic matter and send it somewhere. I don't know where it all goes but it the quantities I've been able to apply it it just seems to disappear.
