BF has 2 blankets crocheted for him by his grandma (RIP) and the one has a stretched area - almost a hole - I'm afraid to even mess with it for fear I would ruin it! plus how would I ever match the yarn color, etc. Suggestions?
Thanks!

RMG, do you know how to crochet? First of all, that would be a huge help! ;D
Even if you don't, you might be able to gently work the fibers back into shape and reinforce them with some plain thread of a close color. I've used cotton thread and interwoven it through the yarn to give it strength -- and kind of nip it back into shape that way.
If you DO know how to crochet, here is a link with some good tips on fixing a crochet blanket:

This link is even better, because it has pictures:

Good luck with the project! Something made by a grandma is always precious!

I do have some basic crochet skills - although it's been awhile since I've done it. I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks for the links

If you decide not to tackle it yourself, sometimes the owner/workers in a yarn shop will take projects such as the one you describe. They also would have access to a lot of yarn when it comes to getting an exact match.
Just a thought.

Finally got around to Hobby Lobby and picked up some crochet hooks - I had picked up some yarn at the thrift the other day - same colors as the afghan with the needed repair. Did some test stiches - wow I still remember how to crochet! Next step is assessing the stiches to see if I can get it back together and looking decent.
Then I've decided I'm crocheting afghans for Christmas for all my family members! So I'm really excited!
