Did you get goodies with it? The attachments are as much fun as the machine itself! :D
Dang, if I keep reading in this area, I've got to go downstairs and dig out another box of fabric and get busy with the machine!

Leera - I almost took one home today. My sis and I went to an auction in Clyman, Wisconsin, and they had a real beauty - a New Companion with ALL of the attachments, original books on both the machine and how to use the attachments, the original warranty, evrything.
I stopped bidding at $40, but it went for $5 more. I made a HUGE mistake - went through the drawers after people were seated, so all those other bidders saw me go "WHOOPIE" when I found the big bag of antique buttons in one of the drawers, and later, all the books and attachments. No one else had opened the machine or looked in the drawers.
Duh. Later, I realized I should have jumped back and went "OH, ICK! a dead mouse!" ;D Dang. No Auction psychology sense at all!
There's no telling how high the bidding would have gone if I continued on - people were bidding way too much for stuff and I didn't want to be one of them!

Every thing on the Forum today is bringing up memories. When I was a teenager I was in a production of "Fiddler on the Roof" the character of the eldest daughter marries a tailor. In the next scene there is a group of people gathered around the proud tailor oohing and aahing about something in the middle. The audience is supposed to assume a baby, it's not it's a sewing machine! :D

I bought a 1940s singer in an art deco desk/cabinet for $9 at an auction. It is in great shape and was packed with notions, accessories, an old oil can, scissors, instruction book and even the original bill of sale. It is in really good shape. I'm still smiling, 2 years later!

i got mine..just like yours leera...from my mom in law.i always thought she hated me.she gave me her mothers who sewed 8 kids clothes on this machine.it has a small electric cord on it to hook it up.very short though.it still has a strip of cloth on it-where she would stick straight pins in whilst sewing.i am so honored.it looks just like u.

I only just now saw this post had been updated! :-[
Sandycane, some things you want to look for are:
Lack of rust.
All the wheels needs to move freely.
The bobbin case and slide plate should be there.
If possible, get the bobbin for it too.
Treadle belts are EASY to find,so no need to worry about those.
When I have more time,I'll get out my digital camera and snap a few pics to show you what to look for and what not to buy. :D

Leera, how many machines is that now? ;D
You'll have to give us your latest tally. I am so envious. I'd give anything to find a good working treadle, like someone said above, they could really come in handy.

Mnmom,I have actually rehomed three, and parted out a few..... 8)
But in this room, where I have my computer and do most of my sewing....I have 9....... :-[
I have: Viking B treadle
White Rotary treadle
Janome
Kenmore
Singer(the one I learned to sew on)
and 4 parts machines.
In another room I have........uummm.well,....9...... :-[
The Singer in the photo above
a Singer treadle
and the rest are either repair projects or waiting to be parted out.
BUT I REALLY,honestly have gotten rid of a few.........I'm am thinning them out, parting them out,and making sure the ones that are truely not fixable get disposed of properly.I do bring home any freebies I find and see what can be done with them.....that is why I still have so many. ;D ;D

I would really like to add a handcrank machine to my collection, but have yet to find one for sale locally. The cost of shipping would be crazy........
I just started another project(well, sort of recently)that I am going to sew only on the White Rotary treadle. This machine has such unusal stitching,it's really neat to sew with.

Hi, 15-91's are great, standard needles, bobbins and bobbin cases are plentiful. The old Singers were built to last a lifetime. I have my Grandmothers 1906 Singer 66 Treadle that she bought new. We have a few others (15). They all sew great. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours for a long time. :)
