As I near my 70th, I got to thinking about how long a guy can garden. I know it depends on health, etc., but who's the oldest on this site who still digs up the ground?

My dad still helps me some, and he turned 94 last feb.. 8)

Now, he'd say you are still a very young man!

My Great-Uncle always said, "the last dirt I dig will be for the hole they put me in." He made it until his eighties when he had a stroke bailing hay. Went to take a rest under his favorite shade tree and never got back up again. Nice way to go, if you ask me.

My mother does all of the mowing, weed trimming, and beautiful gardens by herself. She's 76. A couple of years ago some kind of spider bit her on the leg while she was weed wacking and it was a terrible thing, mostly because of stupid doctors saying it was an infection and not a bite until my Aunt got a dermatologist she works for to look at her, but she recovered and is back out there.

The mowing she does is with a push rotary mower.

When she visited me on the other side of the country 3 years ago we cleaned out the front flower beds and then she announced "let's paint the house" so we did!

may we all be like that one of those years. My Dad is only 83, he still climbs tall ladders to harvest his cherries and keeps the garden going, goes to hunt for mushrooms, hikes 10 miles without batting an eye and dries piles of herbs for their winter tea.

Okay folks. I guess I'll just keep going until someone plants me. ;D

I once saw a church marque that said, "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you were". I love it!
