Dear Admin, I respectfully ask that you reinstate the political forums at the bottom. My days are completely messed up without them. I get up in the morning, grab a Mt. Dew from the fridge and log on. I check the obits, read my mail, then come to BHM to get caught up. Then I can do my morning walk and get my day off to a good start. But the last couple of days have been like something is missing all day.
I know we are sometimes childish in those forums. I know some of us can't go one post without saying liberal or right wing. I know there are those who look for fights and there are those who push buttons.
But the positives far outweigh any negative for me. Please give it some thought.

this might be the first time I've agreed with you GW...

Conservatives and liberals do NOT agree on much of anything....

We are separated in this country by our political views.. they are so different.. I do not see using coming together as a nation ever again...9/11 didn't do it.. katrina didn't do it..

I don't know the answer... maybe a civil war is in our future.. maybe we should divide the country...

LOL Hampster I know which one I am. So I guess you must be the other. We can agree on that.

Most likely an inevitability. I have posted on liberal boards and been treated as harshly as liberals have been treated here for the heinous crime of disagreeing with the majority. I've seen attacks from both sides that were identical with only the names of the victims changed.

I think the two sides of ideology have drifted so far apart that they simply cannot occupy the same country anymore. Both spend their time trying to change the other side and insisting that they are right and they are the true inheritors of the Founding Father's dream.

Personally, I think they are both wrong. But then I'm looking at Costa Rica with fond eyes.

Me, I Vote to Keep them Locked.

What I would do is distill them down the petty, name calling, and taunting.
Leave that Locked as an example of why such Boards are not Open and threads of their Like are deleted.

I have a tendency to agree with the sgt. here. I don't think we need to discuss politics on a self-sufficiency, homesteading bulletin board. However, if you've noticed, much of the commentary in the magazine itself is very politically motivated and charged so... it doesn't surprise me that the magazine's website forum carries the same type of folders on their bulletin board.

It's not that I agree or disagree with any one political party. I'm all over the place as far as my beliefs on things of that nature. I've never found any commentaries in the magazine to be insulting or whatever... and I've never found any particular views stated on the political folders on the bulletin board to be insulting or whatever either. It's just the way that people put them that can get a little dicey.

I think it comes down to people just not respecting other people's viewpoints or discussing them in a civil way. That's a shame too cos those can be the *best* conversations... if folks would just deal with them as such... conversations... and NOT confrontations.

Oh well... whatever the admins decide is fine with me. I'll read what's here and participate when feel led to... and won't mourn the loss of what's been taken away. It's not for me to decide anyhow.

Peace,

Not all animals come to the well to drink, and a lot of folks do like their current events and news from here myself included.
Besides the standard has been set, either play nice or get your walking papers. I think it will work out well.

In view of the *fact that people tend to let their politcs guide thier lives
a civil war is certainly a possiblity but let's hope cooler heads prevail against
such a radical and unnecessary event which if it happens will leave no true
"winner" only the wreckage of a once great country all because of...politcs :-/

flat, yes, it did stop slavery. What it didn't really do was bring this country
totally together. If it had there would have been no need for the Civil Rights
act of 1964 nor equal opportunity laws since then. The wound the Civil War
left is long and very deep passed on from generation to generation in the
deep south as well as many who still find a reason to hate their fellow man
for the color of his skin.

Like it or not that wound still decides who is conservatives and liberals to
a point.
