We just got it done yesterday. Only about 8x6, but I waited too late to start building one and my wife wanter to get her 'maters started.

drove eight 2 foot lengths of rebar into timbers for ground anchors

16 cuft of mulch on floor. would have preferred sand with weed shield on top, but local hardware store was out of sand and we were hot to get done. Racks are 2x2 frames with powder coated wire shelves. My wife painted old gallon milk jugs black to be filled with water and placed under bottom racks - act as heat batteries.

My wife is planting flats of tomatoes now - she is getting a jump start on the garden and happy as could be.

Pat

Very nice.

You can always put sand in later. But you know that. ;D

What is the structure? Is that a hog panel, or some sort of special structure made for a greenhouse? That's along the lines of what I had in mind, but waited too late to start moving - my poor wife only has so much patience with me. Takes me time to figure things out, even after I get moving.

We have a fluorescent light over a kitchen counter - only works on one flat at a time. Karen started in the kitchen with that light until the greenhouse got completed. Shop lights is a good idea - got me thinking - wouldn't take anything to put ceiling hooks in and hang lights for the short period that seeds are starting.

No, no automatic venting. There is a ceiling vent - a pane that opens. We leave the door open and the vent up. I think the top vent is good for hot air to escape, but it needs a vent on the back for cross-ventilation. This will be a good one for starting, but I think next year we could do about 10 foot or more of hog-panel hoop house. This year I learned how to make the timber foundation - never tried that before. I think I could make a bigger one and frame a door into it. We have an old trailer on the property with a leaky roof - it needs to be torn down, but has lots of salvageable parts like doors and louvered windows - would make fine parts for a greenhouse.

Wax makes the vent work? Shutters or louvers, right?

Do you use a shade cloth during the sunny, hot parts of the summer? If so, how do you put it on? Drape it over the outside?

The pavers - do you get grass growing up between the stones?

Pat

Green Line.

My wife couldn't be happier with it.
