Been looking for some worms to start a compost bin.
A pound of Red Wigglers on one site was $20 plus $9.50 shipping. :o

I've not bought worms for any purpose in quite awhile, are they THAT expensive nowdays??????

I always thought red worms were a free resource ;D.
They turn up under every flowerpot or bucket I set down around here. I don't have a clue about the species, or what the differences are, but worms is worms to me.
Did you look at your closest bait shop?

Not since I moved to the south, but in NYS worms were not cheap. A dozen crawlers were $2.50, this is in a tourist town however. Minnows you had to put on layaway! ;)

I guess that was kind of a dumb suggestion (of mine) about a bait shop lol. "Minnows you had to put on layaway"
Worms do multiply fast tho, maybe you can find a few somewhere.

Three years ago I couldn't find red worms at bait shops either (central Kansas) and ended up ordering them from Gardens Alive! (www.gardensalive.com/). Thought I must be nuts for the expense until I saw the difference in my compost. I started a new composter and the worms really did their work. -Karen
