in the catalogs seed potatoes are so expensive that it is just as cheap to buy the spuds . But we like to grow our potatoes. (With last years lousy harvest it sure was not worth the money for the seedpotatoes that I ordered). where do you get yours, and do you ever use store potatoes?

The COST of seed potatos IS high!
I usually buy store-bought ones in the winter and let them sprout. I plant the small ones whole.
I probably have more problems with mine, as compared to a seed-potato buyer, but when I can get 25 pounds for $2 in the Fall I can accept that my yield is going to be less.

my yield with expensive seed potatoes was nothing to crow about either.
I planted some red potatoes one year that had sprouted and they did great. I didn't think they would because supposedly they are treated with something to keep them from sprouting. I would like to plant some yukon gold but I can't get them locally and when I tried to order some from one of the seed catalogs a couple years ago they could not ship them at the right time for my zone. They said they would freeze on their end and would be black when I got them and would rot. We plant potatoes in February here in lower bama. We have a hardware store that gets all kinds of seeds and garden things and I buy my potatoes from them when the garden is dry enough for me to plant, which seldom happens.
