We all have leftover bits of yarn from projects and I hate to throw anything away. We have one of those manual can openers that uncrimps the top rather than cutting through the top of the can. I started making rounds using the leftover yarn scraps and pulled it tight wound the edge to envelope the bottom of the can lid. Now I have emergency candle holders to put my candles on. The crocheted bottom keeps the lid from scratching the furniture and keeps the lid from scorching the tables when a lit candle is on it. I have also started doing this on my used can lids after I open one of my canning jars. (I wash them first ;D)

As soon as I can figure out how to do it, I'll post. But basically I just made a crocheted circle a little larger than the can lid and pulled the tail of the yarn through the edge to tighten it around the bottom.
