* * I got my Stokes seed catalog in the mail yesterday. *Before I even consider ordering can I get some opinions of their seeds and services? * Have you ordered from them before and if so were you happy with what you got? * I don't know if I should get my seeds from someone like them or just buy either at Wal-Mart or the small nursery that's a couple of blocks up the street. *Any opinions appreciated. Thanks.
Oh yes, I'm mainly interested in things that will do well in containers, lettuce, scallions, baby carrots, spinach, cherry tomatoes, and the like.

Stokes does have some of the old varieties, so I would say go with the Open Pollinated seeds, and save seeds from what you grow.
Kale is good in containers if you have a couple big ones. You can "cut-and-come-again" with it, and it gives you something fresh and green most of the winter here in zone 6.

Is the small nursery privately owned or part of a big chain? I always support locally owned businesses before I buy from big box stores or corporations. The thing I like about the small nursery near me is that the woman that owns it will grow something specific if I request it.

However when I do have to buy seeds I buy them from the Jung Seed Company, have always had great results!

I like to look throught the catalog, but have never ordered from them. The prices always seem a little high to me.

I liked what I ordered from Baker Creek last year, and will most likely order from them again.
