LMAO!!
You been had.
Regular garlic is more than adequate for even the most discriminating tastes.
The slick boys have been marketing regular spices as Cajun or Creole for years....doctored up with varying amounts of cayenne pepper of course.....and making a financial killing as well.
You have my sympathy.....

I live in Louisiana... never heard of it. Of course, we have LOTS of garlic growing WILD here... maybe that's what they're selling?
Good luck!

Way cool for you! I'm planting German garlic this year... I've never even grown garlic, but I enjoy a very strong garlic flavor and it's supposed to be very hardy, even to drought. Wish me luck!
Oh, and Zebraman, any pointers about garlic you might have, I'd appreciate knowing them..... ;)

Hey Gypho;First of all:Growing Garlic is definitely different in the southern states than it is in the northern tier of the states. It is usually best to get them into the ground in Oct-Nov.
Another difference is that garlic emerges in the fall/winter and puts on a good foliage all winter, while N.garlic's don't emerge until spring.
I recommend using organic growing methods if you want the best results in terms of taste, nutrition and human and plant health.
Garlic does best grown in rotation with other garden crops.I personally add Bonemeal and Micorryzeal Bacteria to the bed at planting time.It is also a good idea to raise the bed.(All mine are raised).
If you have sandy soil that doesn't hold water, then flat beds are fine and should grow good garlic.
On the other hand if you have tight clay or silty soil, raised beds are usually better.
In the South, the idea is to keep the ground cool as long as you can so the garlic will bulb up good before warm temperatures force maturity.
Mulching the beds after planting also discourages weeds.
PLANTING and GROWING TIPS
1.I soak the cloves overnight in a gallon of water containing 1Tbls.liquid seaweed extract,1 Tbls.liquid humate,1 Tbls.baking soda(to inhibit fungal growth).
2.Next I soak cloves(individual)3-5 minutes in rubbing alcohol in order to kill any mites and other hitchhikers, and plant immediately. Also for long term soil health, don't plant anything but healthy cloves.
3.Every 2 weeks during the growing season I give the garlic a Foliar feeding using the same formula that I use for inoculation(see #1.)but adding 1 Tbls.of Molasses as well.
Stop feeding once the bulb begins to swell and grow, but continue to water.
I discontinue watering a week or two before harvesting to let the soil and the garlic dry down some as late watering can cause wrappers to split as the bulbs swell up too rapidly.Excess water during this time can lead to fungal and other disease problems.
I'll post harvesting tips later.-

We plant garlic every fall but until a couple days ago I had not heard of creole garlic. A friend asked if I had ever planted it. Gyhpo, if you plant garlic today you'll be planting in mud won't you? I know I would. We are finally getting rain and my brother in LA. said ya'll are supposed to get 5 or 6 inches. Stay dry.

Hey Gypho;www.territorialseed.com carries both
1.ZFE256 Fish and Kelp bloom mix
2.ZFE271 Super Humix
I buy both of these locally,Humate and Humix are basically the same product. You will also be able to use both of these in the rest of your garden and you'll wonder how you were ever able to do without it.-

We got 6 inches in about 4 hours yesterday.... hubby emptied out the rain gauge, and it kept raining.... don't know what's in it this morning, but it finally stopped last night. Our roads were flooded, and I "almost" didn't get my car home... almost. ;)
But about planting that garlic.... I'm wondering if I can plant it in Miracle Gro? I got some that's still dry, I think... ;D

P.S. Thank You, Zebraman for the tips. I'm making notes now.

Hey Gypho;Miracle Grow has Way to much nitrogen in it.If you use it you will have a very Bad gardening year and you probably wont ever want to attempt it again. If on the other hand you start out Right, you'll have great results and you'll understand why people put a lot of time and energy itno growing it themselves.
The easier, softer way isn't always the easier, softer way.-

I don't use it for much....... I bought a bag when it was on sale, and started a few seeds in it. It works great for that..... but for everything else, it's DIRT. LOL And the only things I started in MiracleGro were some tomatoes, some cukes, and some squash. But I noticed that my cukes didn't do as well this year, could it be the MG that did it? Hmmm.... Come to think of it, my maters are the only things that did really well, of the three seeds started with it.
