What a beauty!
If you have a local vacuum/sewing machine shop, they should have the leather belt for about $6 or $7. (That's how I found my last one.) Alternatively, with a google for Treadle Sewing Machine Belts, I came up with quite a few hits, including:
http://www.treadleon.net/sewingmachineshop/index.html that will tell you how to install it, and:
http://sewwithsarah.com/treadle_sewing_machine_parts.htm that will have both the belts and bobbins.

The bobbin may be tricky to find in the right size, so I hope you have at least one to measure.

My machines both have a boxed in cabinet, and I know from experience that your type is much better - there's a better amount of knee room and the treadle will have a wider path to gain momentum. (The swing on mine is only about 2" up or down from the outside edge of the treadle, while the open cabinet type has about 3" or so.)

With toes from one foot at the close part of the treadle and heel from the other foot at the far edge, you can really make that baby hum! 8)

Thanks for the info, I did find a manual at:
http://www.thetreadlersvillage.com/AGMasonModelDmanual.html

Hopefully it will picture the bobbins, as it should be for the correct machine. None came with the machine.

Will look locally for the belting, I know it's around some where I used to buy it in 50 ft spools along with couplers, back in the factory days. (gone now).

DW got it from her sister, was supposed to be handed down from husbands grand mother, but when ask about parts, the true story was that it came from an antique store.

As it turns out when talking with MIL she has three more stored in her basement, so will check them out.

Since the gold leaf decals aren't worn off your machine, it may not have been used much - that means the parts won't be worn inside, either. The one I had from my Mom had been her mothers and the decals had been worn away all across the front.

Three stored in MIL's basement! What a treasure trove! Maybe you'll find a bobbin (and don't forget you need a bobbin case as well!) It'll be a sharp-ended, bullet-shaped thing about the size of your thumb or smaller, and the bobbin slides inside. Winding the thread properly through the tensioners can be a task.

But since you're into this project, maybe you already know all that stuff!

CarolAnn, I wish I was more knowledge about this.
But that's the way you learn I guess.

I guess I figured that the manual was a good first step.

I haven't checked out the others yet, but as my MIL has had a couple of medical close calls lately, we have been spending a lot of time cleaning, sorting and in this case discovering all sorts of treasures.

Thanks for the info, I need all the help I can get!

Does this machine have a long bobbin or a round one? Round bobbins are much easier to come by. My treadle has long bobbin. I'm thinking of replacing the head with a new treadle Janome machine as I think my old head might be worn out. I'm going to send it for repairs soon.

Up date: FYI
1) I'm being told that Singer has bought out just about all the old companies, and I trying to locate their parts center.
2) Metal bobbins are the same?
3) leather belting @ industrial suppy stores, McMaster-Carr, Granger?
4) Golden Star made by A.G. Wells, same as a White vs
5) Site for manuals and parts:
http://www.thetreadlersvillage.com/A...elDmanual.html

Manual arrived today, got to checking the inside and low and behold the re was a bobbin in it. Long style.

Also spent another day cleaning at the MIL house, got a chance to check out the other two treadle machines.
One is a Singer and one can't read the brand, but it looks identical to the Golden Star.

Both cabinets are in much worst shape, but did salvage the belts from them, and several needles, spools and bobbins, which look like they will fit.

Found a source for the leather belting, $10 bucks each (ordered two right away).

Guess it's time to read the manuals and see if I can get this one to work.

Any one have a stringing/threading diagram for the thread?

Your manual should have good instructions with pictures on how to thread the machine.

I also posted a "How to thread a treadle sewing machine" in the How To area. Just posted the pictures today. (April 14, 2008 )

Take your time and expect it not to work right right away. Adjust one tension (top or bottom) at a time, sew a little and make a note of what side is pulling too much. Once you have the tension set so that the stitiches are even on both sides of the fabric, it might be good to mark the settings. I use a tiny dot of white-out correction fluid - it lasts forever and I had some handy - but use a marker or anything you have.

Now show us some pictures of what's been sewn, OK? 8)

Hunter,if you go to the treadleon forum main page, there is a section for threading,a section for needles, and a section for replacing the belts..........I've found it to be very helpful.

I just picked up a White Rotary FR this week........will be my last one for a while........ :)
