I would like to find something herbal to dye my hair. I know I should just let it go gray but at 47 I just don't want to. It used to be med. brown. Now it's a number on the box ;D If using herbs how do you dye only your hair.(Mine is short.) ?

I don't know about hair, but black walnut husks can be used to dye material brown. I would be very careful about allergic reactions to any materials. Good luck and sorry I couldn't help further.

would you believe I was also going to say black walnut. not only that, I once bought a product that was made with black walnut and I tried it, when I got it on my hair the water main was shut off. I had to use water that was left in a watering can to get most of the gook off my head. Ugh. well, and isn't Henna plant based? If you are a natural blonde, use chamomile, and lemon.

I would definitely try henna. BUT you need to use a high quality grade (such as that used for skin, as opposed to that comes in a box). check out www.hennaforhair.com. It will open a whole new world for you. I have used henna for many years and while it's a messy time consuming process, the results are definitely worth it!

My old landlady used coffee to color her hair. Not sure if it's permanent or not. I didn't know how she did it, so I did a search and came up with what looks to be a good article~

I dyed my hair for years, but got tired of doing it, so I let it go gray. It turned out that I had wide streaks, like Lillian Munster. I like it.

I've done that, but it's really not that good for you because you can absorb caffeine through the scalp. But I have done it. I have also used a very strong coffee solution to stain wood. Brush it on, let it set, wipe off the extra.
