My lucky son moved his family into a new apartment the first of July. A week later his landlord called and told him that he would be stuck out in California till the first of next year, and that my son should help himself to all the fruits and vegetables in his landlords garden. We traveled all the time my kids were growing up and the only "garden" we ever had was what I could plant in pots. He calls me to ask how to tell if the corn is ripe. And tells me that the green beans are the best he has ever eaten. He loves spaghetti sauce made from fresh tomatoes. His girls are saying they want to be farmers when they grow up. He has some veggies that he doesn't know what they are. He says he wants me to come down and tell him. I will the first chance I get.
I told one of my friends at work about this wonderful harvest my son is enjoying and he said "Is it safe to eat vegetables you pick from the garden after all the USDA inspects all the food at the grocery store" It was all I could do to keep from laughing in his face.
