Our woodstove growing up did not have a water reservior but my grandmother still used it to can on. She said the even temp. made it easier to pressure can and brought water to a boil quicker during a good water bath.

I am sorry, I do not like the idea of heating up the house in summer with the wood stove. It gets too hot in winter, when I cook a big meal I have to open the windows. I wish I had a wood heater like my mom did her canning in. It was a multipurpose huge kettle integrated with the fire box and was used to heat bathwater, boiling laundry, and canning. (that was before she got a wshing machine) you could really stack the jars in it. Dad had made some wooden grids for it that worked fine. It was in the bathroom of course and that was on the corner of the house, besides, where I come from we had 54 degrees one July fourth. I did not notice it ever heating up the house unduly. But in this climate, I can outside on a gas stove, and considering all the wood we have down after this icestorm, I am seriously considering laying up an outside stove utilizing cement block.
