This is a treadle machine that my sis might bid on this week. Isn't it pretty? It also looks narrow - and may be hard to use, since the gold work isn't rubbed off from use.

Carol ann I agree that is a beautiful machine.
I also agree the enclosed cabinet would make a clumsy person think twice before using the tredle which I assume is in the cabinet.
Maybe she can cut a hole in the cabinet bach and put the treddle out on the floor when in use to make it easier. Where there is a will there is a way.
I'd buy that baby too at the right price and then figure it out later.

Looks like the one my mum had, when I was very young: looks like a Singer! They still can be found around, but aren't as cheap as they used to be. I hope that you enjoy using it, and get to use the stuff that you make or patch for just about forever.

She'll bid up to $20 for it - the cabinet is worth much more than that. If the weather goes bad, as it's supposed to, she might get lucky with it.
My mom had one without the boxed-in cabinet so there was plenty of knee space. The treadle is fixed, though, there's no moving it on any of them. The problem on the box-treadle I own is that it's too close to the floor so there's not enough play to push it down very far or back up. Then you can't get up any speed. Mom's was a New Companion and sewed like a dream! I cringe to think how I painted it antique blue in 1975, then sold it later at a yard sale for a plant stand!
Mom put a felt pad around the small place on the neck so she could stash pins there as she sewed. The ruffler attachment was awesome! I do miss that fabulous old machine!

Bought it from a guy for $10.00.......it's missing a few things, but if I can find the parts to put it back together I think it will be a nice machine.
