They both seem to be shying away from the old rote message that is supposed to remind you how to tie this knot, it goes something like this:

The rabbit comes out of the hole and runs around the tree and goes back down the hole...

I learned to tie the bolan in the navy one handed. I learned alot of other knots also but its the bolan I use the most.

In the climbing community, the bowline is rarely use, and I never allow any novice climber to use this knot.

The better knot is the figure 8 on a bight. Learning to tie this knot is much much simpler then the bowline, giving a stronger knot less likely to fail.

the 8 on a bight is not a "stronger" knot. Both have are in the "high" efficiency range for knots...which is why _only_ the bowline and the figure eight (should be _retrace_ figure eight, not an eight on a bight) are globally the only knots acceptable for tie in to your harness for technical climbing.
