Since we are planning on stepping up our canning this year, I decided I needed to have the gauge on my canner checked for accuracy. I called the extension office and they said sure, we do that for free. Only takes 5 to 10 minutes. So I load up and go up there only for them to tell me that the woman that knows how to do it just left and won't be back until tomorrow. They told me I could leave my lid there and pick it up after she tests it.

Why do I feel like I just left my child in town?

LOL, I can only imagine. I think I would have brought it home and returned with lid in tow tomorrow so no one can say oops we cant seem to find your lid (kid)
Ya know buearcrats they never accept responsibility for any thing. I just got a new canner for this year, but do need to take my other 2 and get the gauges checked on them, as I will be using all 3 more than likely.

Just had a call from the extension office. *My canner was accurate up to 15 lbs and then it was off by 1 lb but they said they made note of it and it was ready to pick up. *(Not that I would let my canner reach 15 on purpose. *That's when my momma would go into panic mode when she was canning, lol!)

The extension office was closed in our county about three years ago, so in order to have my gauge read, I would have to drive 2.5 hours each way. I bought a weighted gauge pressure canner and have had no problems with it. The only time that I had jars not seal properly was when I was distracted and realized afterwards that I had not wiped off the rims. Well that's what i get for trying to study and pressure can at the same time!
