I wonder if any of you "canners" out there know of a good source to buy lids at a discount? Is there a food co-op or place to be able to buy them in bulk? I love to can and plan on doing a lot of it this year, but the lids are getting to be so pricey.

Thanks for your help.

My only advice is to check around your area and sometime ya just get lucky. I had a doctor appointment today in a neighboring town and went to the little Walmart, not a super store but I found reg. size for 1.41 a dozen and wide mouth for 1.97, that is flats only as I have a lot of bands already. thats about 1.00 cheaper per dozen than our local stores. So I bought 8 dozen and will be there from time to time in the next few weeks so I pick up a few dozen each time. On the net you have to add shipping and that raises the price. But if you have a few friends or neighbors who can you can order more and save some change.

I really wish we had a co-op close by us here to purchase basic needs but in this area not many people even raise a garden and I cant imagine living without one.

Keep looking you may run up on a good deal somewhere that you never thought to even look.
Good luck.

I was at Super K-mart in Amherst, Ohio tonight and found the regular mouth lids on clearance for .40 per pack of 12. Check your store to see if they are on clearance there as well. They were on an endcap in the houseware section.

I haven't found them on sale but when I go to the grocery store or walmart I pick up a pack or two. I can a lot and plan to do more this year. I don't remember what I pay for them.

You could try Big Lot or Odd Lot if there's one around you..........last year I bought them there......$0.99 per 12pk.........the Big Lot here also has canning jars cheaper than any other store around.

You might try:

(I didn't search long enough to find the lids, but since they have jars in bulk, I bet they'll have matching lids too!)

Now if I understand their catalog page, this place sells 345 lids for $31.05.

Maybe you could find a couple of other people who can and split it two or three ways - that's a LOT of lids at $1.08 a dozen. If you could find enough folks to split up a full case of 3105 lids, they go down to $.90 a dozen - still not a fabulous price compared to what some folks are finding on sale.

Thanks for the ideas! I went to a Big Lots near our area and asked if they had canning lids. They didn't, but I did call my dd who lives in Houston and asked her to check there. Boy, did I score!!!!!!!! They came this weekend for a visit and my sil brought 39 dozen at .99 a box. This was great for me. In this part of the country they are selling for 2.49 a box. They only had the regular mouth jars, so I'm still searching for wide mouth, but in the meantime I'm a happy canner! ;D

Years ago a friend and I went together on a case of reg and a case of wide mouth for a good price..kitchen garden or something like that. I will for sure be checking Big Lots next time I go "to town". The nearest is an hour and 1/2 away. I think that is one of the smart things to stock up on for sure!!
In the meantime I usually pick up a couple boxes every single trip to the grocery store or walmart...so I always have 6 or 8 boxes ahead...been canning meat and using them up though.
