Stupid Question

Okay, so I bought a 12 quart canner from Craiglist. If I want to do a hot water bath for pickled beets or apple filling can I use the pressure canner with out the jiggler for the hot water bath?

Boy, I still have a lot to learn.

Yes. That's the beauty of a Pressure Canner. Leave the lid loose and you have a Steam Bath.

I use my pressure canner as my water bath canner all of the time. I put the lid on, but don't tighten it. I did something oh so stupid last night, but it might work for water bath canning. I forgot to put the rubber emergency valve thingie back on the lid and couldn't figure out why it was taking so long for the steam to come out of the valve. Nursing students are sleep deprived. But it might work well for water bath canning where you could actually tighten the lid.
