I raised some Burpee Long Keeper tomatoes this year and was wondering if anyone had any experience at preserving them through the winter. I was considering wrapping them in newspaper and putting them in our cellar or does someone have a better way? Thanks!!

Wrapping isn't a good idea for long term storage it concentrates ethylene gas promoting ripening.

Ideally the tomatoes should be stored single layer, not touching, on wire racks for good ventialtion at about 50 degrees.

Next best method, pull up the entire plant, tomatoes intact and hang it upside down in the basement.

I have heard of those tomatoes but never tried them. We had tomatoes last year until christmas. would those keepers keep longer? we have lattice shelves in the cellar and that worked pretty well.
