Go to this link, then navigate to wild meat. There are detailed instructions and photos. I love the one i built. I use it in my pond for both crawfish and bream (sunfish). ENJOY! http://www.freewebs.com/clarkshomestead/

Years ago I had some success in building a really good crawdad trap and I wish I had patented it but it was to simple. Buy some 1/2 inch netting. Go to your bicycle shop and get two used free bicycle rims , one larger then the other. Attach 1/2 inch rabbit wire on the bottom of the smaller one then attach them both together with the netting so when it hits the bottom the larger one will fall over the bottom smaller one. We lived on the duwamish slew which had tons of crawdads. I found that the local fish market would give me free salmon heads which I found to be better then any other bait I have used. wire the head to the rabbit wire. attach trap to some small rope.(1/4 inch poly line works great) attach three one foot lines to the trap and attach the three to a single line at least ten feet long. attach a milk bottle to the end of line with your address and name on it. This was required in my state. After I set the trap I found a twenty minute wait was the right amount of time to get the max amount of crawdads. I would take the canoe out in the slew with 3 traps and I would get 15 to 30 big daddies in each trap. You have to pull them up real fast so the water pressure keeps them from swimming out. I usually used about 1 foot of netting between the rims. After I filled up a big wash basin I would paddle home and Dad would have a big pot boiling and the crawdad feast began. I was 12 at the time and just writing this brought back some great memories. This trap could also be tossed from shore and worked just as well. Oh to be living in the 50's and early 60's again. I'm sixty now and still smiling.

They use a crab net down on the gulf, that uses the same principle with three rings and netting. Loved to catch rock crabs while waiting for fish to bite.

I guess we were low-tech when we were kids...we used to go crabbing with a roll of thick twine, a dip net and a pacakge of chicken necks... :D
