pickling salt

I just bought two containers of pickling salt, almost passed out when I saw the price. I am used to paying 29 cents a pound for plain salt with no additives in Europe. $1.40 is what they charged at Save-a-Lot. I don't see why plain salt should be so expensive. It should be cheaper since there is nothing to and nothing in it. I guess that keeps folks using the salt with all the additives since it costs less.
