White asparagus and ham--anyone else love it?

Slice or two of bauernbrot--sourdough rye--and butter and its a meal!

where are you coming from ? husband does not like the white asparagus and I would not want to go to the work of raising it that way. Green for us.
I personally love asperagus in any way. soup, as salad, with potatoes and hollandaise sauce,or just raw, break off a fresh stalk and nibble it right in the garden.

It turns green once it breaks thru the earth mounds it grows in. At that point Germans will toss it into the feed bin for livestock.

The mounded dirt will show cracks and at that point it is harvested--white! Once it turns green it is stronger tasting. They have a gage for it with the best quality ones being a little less than half an inch diameter.

We love it boiled and with melted butter over it plus a little salt and pepper with a good Black Forest ham.

A salad with a mix of red wine vinegar and salad oil plus a little chopped red onion is a fine dish also.

My husband used to order that in a German tavern that he used to frequent. He loved it, but hasn't been there for years. He said it was a Bavarian tavern and the sandwich had cheese instead of butter. All else was the same.

Sort of tastes like corn on the cob to me with melted butter and salt and pepper on it. Scrumdillyumptious!
