I came across this dream concept a little while back. Jellyfish (http://www.clariantechnologies.com/main/page_plugin_wind_power.html) I don't know if it's getting traction but the idea of a small wind source that doesn't have to have a tall tower appeals to us suburban homesteaders. I could find a place for two or three of these much easier than mounting one big one.

I don't know if this gizmo will actually come to fruition but it might be worth watching.

Sounds a little too "dreamy" in my opinion. It still won't start up with less than 5mph winds. It is overpriced. It says it is not designed for off-grid charging of batteries. It won't work with a power outtage. Sounds like one should stick with traditional wind charger for the money.

Quote..
"You simply install it on your rooftop or a wind tower and plug it in."

I don't believe the power companies would allow this..

Any wind machine that's advertised to simply mount on a rooftop is, without a doubt, a scam!

Don't believe the hype!!!!!!

Even a properly mounted wind turbine needs a heck of a lot of wind.

If you don't live where wind is a bit of a problem...meaning...you have to be mindful of things blowing away much of the time...like my place...LOL...you very likely don't have a practical and suitable site for wind power!!!!

Howdy

Looking at the little movie, tells me they are using some kind of planetary gear system in this.

Don't know VERY LITTLE about electrical code, but doesn't it endanger other useres on the grid if you are producing and putting uncontrolled power into the system like that ? I mean if there is an outage in an area you could be putting dangerous current into the system with an appliance like that and producing dangerous conditions to others........

Approved grid-tie Inverters have safety controls (anti-islanding) in case the grid goes down.

Grid-Tie is complicated......it's NOT an option here where the grid is a member owned co-op.

I was reading the home page on the above site.....here's what's extremely comical.......

$400 wind turbine....."Typically it would take around 7 years to recoup the cost of the Jellyfish" ??? Huh? LMAO!!!!!
