Has anyone heard of this recipe? My Dad used to make this for our supper. I loved it. No-one in our family has heard of it.
First you boil some potatoes, cubed, til almost done. Then you brown some hamburger and pour in the cubed potatoes with some mustard(Pop always used Guldens). I don`t know what else he used, but man that stuff was to kill for!

cub,
Was he making hash?
Here's one recipe I've used. The amounts are approximate, since it's often made with leftovers!
2 cups leftover ground beef
1 cup diced, boiled potatoes
1 small diced onion
1 can onion soup, OR cream of mushroom or chicken soup OR left over gravy
salt and pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients in an oven proof dish, bake at 350 degrees for 35- 45 minutes.
You can also add other leftovers, such as cooked carrots or peas.
You can also do this dish with raw hamburger on the bottom, then the chopped onion, then the soup or gravy and crushed Tater Tots on top, but you have to bake it a lot longer - double the time. Use very lean beef, or it will be swimming in grease!
As for the mustard, if he was like my dad, he added it to nearly everything, including scrambled eggs! It would be great in hash too.

Here it is a month since I posted this thread, but here goes with the replies: I recently came upon the exact taste my dad`s stuff tasted like: I cooked up some Red Pontiac taters, cut up with the skins on, about 1 inch cubes. At the same time I sauteed some lean ground round on a high heat. When it was just brown, I threw in the drained taters and kept back the water. Next I mashed the whole mess with my old fashioned tater masher and stirred the mess up good and poured in some of the tater water. Just enough to make it a stewey constituency. Then put in a nice amount of Gulden`s mustard. Of course some sea salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste.

I don't know what you would call it, but i like to take some ground beef (or anything ground up for that matter - lately I use more turkey than anything), fry it up in a pan with some mushrooms, carrotts, garlic, onions, etc. I make up a batch of mashed potatoes - fill in a baking dish with about 3/4 to an inch of mashed potatoes, layer the fried mix on top - bake it then add a layer of green beans and cheese........kids hate it, but they're picky!!!! I love it.

Jimmy,
That sounds like a version of shepherd's pie. I can't imagine why your kids don't like it. Sounds tasty to me.
