I just sprinkled enough dry Kool Aid in the boiling syrup to give it a slight tinge. I like how it looks.

Wow, that looks great...how exactly do you use the canned apples (sauce, pies?? )and how do you process them? I have tons of apples in our orchard and am looking for other alternatives to making sauce and drying them...

These are Winesap apples in light syrup and will be used for pies. *The syrup is made by adding 1 1/2 cups of sugar to 6 cups of water. * You simmer the apples in the syrup for 4 minutes and then fill the hot jars. *Water bath for 20 min or pressure can at 8 min at 5 lbs.
You have an orchard full of apples? *Lucky You! *Yeah, definitely preserve some of that bounty!

Ever so pretty... Does anyone still remember spiced apple slices.... They are so pretty mostly used for decoration but I loved to eat them when I was a kid.... Cassie :-[

Rideaway - how lucky you are to have a problem like that! Tons of apples? !
Mom used to throw in a spoon full of red hots into her applesauce for a cinnamon kick - I bet the koolaid will add a bit of flavor as well as color (so be careful which ones you add!)
And don't forget about apple butter - just cook it long and slow until the juice is reduced and it's nice and thick. Yummy!
But the very best is schnitz - dried apple slices! If you have kids, though, make sure they don't gobble up too many - when they're dried it's easy to eat the equivalent of several apples before they realize it - with some distressing results!

Never made spiced apple slices but the sound good.
I've made apple sauce but not with the red cinnamon hots, i'd like to get some and try that.
Made some apple butter today and it sure did take a long time for three little jars, but it's good.
