Has anyone purchased and/or used the pre-seasoned cast iron cookware? I purchased a skillet today that is pre-seasoned, and the instructions say to spray it with Pam. I read on the forum that Pam wasn't really good for cast iron. Any suggestions? Thanks. :)

I'm wondering what brand of castiron did you buy??
Are they trying to cover up a poor product, or poor preseasoning??
I fry bacon in my mew pans the first couple times, to help season them..

In reply to your question about what brand of cast iron I purchased, it is Lodge, and appears to be the new line with them. :)

*A couple years ago i bought a new Lodge griddle... *it worked fine right from new...
I just use a little oil on it as i use it... I like peanut oil or butter the best.

There is nothing inherently wrong with using Pam or any other brand of spray on oil. However, it is certainly cheaper and better for the enviroment to use an oil from the bottle that you just wipe on. I just pour about 1 tsp of oil in my pan and wipe it really good with a rag.

IMHO the best way to season cast iron is to use the heck out of it. When I manage to get a new one or if one of my boys get a new one I try to use it exclusively till it get good and seasoned. Then they last forever. I have 2 that belonged to my grandmother and they are probably 50 years old or more.
The only advice I can give is to season with whatever you cook with.
