My mom uses one of these for making slaw about every week. I happened to remember seeing one in my grandfather's closet once. I asked my grandfather about it and he told me to come up and get it if I would use it. This thing was always stored in the original box with the manual and everything. I know for a fact it hasn't been used since my grandmother's passing 19 years ago and my mom told me it's probably been longer than that. As far as material the manual says "The micro-keen cutting cones are nickel and chrome plated for everlasting beauty and protection." I'm not sure when my grandmother bought it but the user manual has a copyright in 1961. It assembles on a stand and has different cones for different cuts. Just attach the cone, hold the veggie in place, and turn the crank. I made some awesome hashbrowns tonight.

The most common brand of them you see around is, Salad Master... I have two of them myself, and they do work pretty good...
