I have some ground venison *that has been in the freezer for 3 years. Is this eatable or is it dog meat?

Venison and other 'wild' meats don't have the amount of Fat content that's in grocery items. Fat gets Freezer-Burn the fastest. I've eaten deer that was frozen for 2 years and it was great! If I were you, I'd thaw it out and look for burned spots, cut them off and cook it(not the burned spots). May wan't to can some. Freezer Burn doesn't render meat inedible, it just doesn't taste good.

If you don't like the meat, rotate it faster, feed the dogs and go hunting again.

True, the meat is not inedible. if i think meat has a little freezer burn; i am more likely to use it in something spicy like chili, enchiladas, etc than stew or another dish where you are more likely to taste the freezer burn.
dang! this is making me hungrier; gotta go check on the brats and saurkraut!!

msta, you don't know how lucky you are. My wife won't eat Duck because she fell in love with the birds in our pond. I guess I'll have to lie and tell her it's Chicken. Problem is; it's one of the few things that doesn't taste like chicken. LOL

My question is how the heck does it stay in the freezer and not get et? Maybe its just my bunch of carnivores. As for cooking game meat while the spouse is out of the house, cant imagine that. I like animals too, have had many a pet pig that made excellent ham and bacon and such. Maybe Im just not a normal girl. But I have my weaknesses too. Talk about beautiful birds, I raised pheasants several years ago for the freezer, they were gorgeous and dog gone tasty too. But that is just me.
