Does anyone know about outdoor bread ovens? I once found an article on a couple who gave up the city living rat race to build a home off-grid. They built a stone-fire oven and sold bread to the local towns folk. I think the article was from Countryside Magazine but not sure.
Anyhow, I have tryed several serches and can find nothing. Anyone ever hear of this outdoor oven or know where I can get instructions for building one?

There's a ton of information on the net....here's a good place to start....

The Bread Builders: Hearth Loaves and Masonry Ovens by Daniel Wing and Alan Scott is a good book...http://tinyurl.com/33zt86
My interest is in earth ovens mostly....they can be built with free local materials...clay, stone, straw....
Build Your Own Earth Oven, 3rd Edition: A Low-Cost Wood-Fired Mud Oven; Simple Sourdough Bread; Perfect Loaves by Kiko Denzer, excellent!!!

I also have the book The Bread Ovens of Quebec by Lise Boily, Jean-Francois Blanchette, and Lise Boily-Blanchette but there's all the info one needs to know in the Denzer book.

You might consider the adobe style fire oven used in the southwest called a horno.
