I came across this on another list I watch. If you have never heard of
CSA, it is Community Supported Agriculture. It is a way for the
farmers to sell directly to the consumer while hedging their bets for
costs and expenses. If you live in the area, take advantage of this.
If you don't, consider encouraging a similar organization in your county.

Hi Everyone:
I'm writing to let you know about our Winter CSA (Community Supported
Agriculture) program. We're taking applications now for our program,
which will begin on November 21st.
We are a Christian company that prides itself on being a responsible
steward of this earth. All our products are free range and all
natural, though we are not "certified organic." We are focused on
raising animals with no preservatives, antibiotics, steroids etc. on
pasture and with respect, dignity and humane treatment. Our fruits
and vegetables are raised with an emphasis on sustainable growing
methods with minimal pesticide use. We try and use natural pest
control methods wherever possible.
Belonging to a CSA is a great way to support your local farmer and
keep your food dollars in Tennessee. We also have an array of Amish
preserved vegetables and fruits and expect to have a little fresh
winter produce. Fanny Yoder and her daughters provide our Amish
baked goods and they are absolutely amazing. Everything Avalon Acres
Farms provides to our customers is all produced here in Tennessee.
On average, when you shop at Kroger, your food travels 1500 miles to
get to your table and NINE cents of your dollar goes to the farmer...
when you purchase our products, the farmer receives over FIFTY cents
of every dollar and you get a much better tasting, fresher and
healthier product. We have a weekly newsletter that helps you
prepare your food and every new customer gets a complimentary Avalon
Acres Cookbook of popular chicken recipes.
The WINTER schedule will start on Wednesday, Nov. 21st and Sunday
Nov. 25th and will run for 10 deliveries EVERY OTHER WEEK (semi-
weekly) with no breaks. This will wrap up the season in late March.
We deliver to a wide variety of locations in and around Nashville,
including the East Nashville area, Murfreesboro and Springhill. You
can also check us out on the web at http://www.avalon-acres.com.
There you will also find the Winter Registration Form and also a
Frequently Asked Questions page and PDF document.
It was a rough year due to the late freeze and long standing drought
this summer, and we and our other farmers really need winter income.
For this reason there is no "minimum order"... no need to buy a
package or even have a standing order, necessarily. We do prefer it,
however, if you only want to make a smaller standing order or buy a
few things from time to time, that's fine too. Make your food dollar
count by supporting local growers and enjoy good food while knowing
you are making a real difference in peoples lives.
God's Blessings,
