I want to make a flat-bottomed wooden spoon to use when cooking. Do you think it would be possible for me to cut off the bottom portion of a regular wooden spoon and sand it down and have it work?

by the bottom of the spoon do you mean the tip or the outside of the bowl or the inside of the bowl? I used to cut the tip of the bowl off of a wooden spoon and sand it down to make a kind of spoon scraper, to get into the edges of a pan. If you mean the outside or inside of the bowl you need to be careful you don't make it too thin. Other than that I don't see any reason why not.
