We have been using our Swiss chard like lettuce on sandwiches, etc., but I hear that even the stalks are good cooked. Any recipes?

Mmmmmm, I love cooked Swiss Chard! Usually, I steam it and eat it with a little butter and salt. Good with vinegar. Also, a Japanese method with spinach works well too: Steam, squeeze out all the water, chill, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and dribble a little soy sauce on it.

Loba: Finally got around to trying your recipe. After my first taste I was asking myself where this delicious stuff has been all my life. Thank you. The garden will have Swiss Chard again next year. It seems to last forever and can be used so many ways.

Little expensive, but theres a type called "bright lights" swiss chard. It's an array of yellow, orange, and red stalks that is almost neon in color. For something a little different, tastes the same but looks stunning!

You can use the stalks seperately. Try a recipe for celery sukiyaki using swiss chard stalks. Use the stalks in stews.
Blanch the leaves lightly. Make a Chinese style spring roll filling with finely chopped stalks and mushrooms, etc. put a spoon full onto a blanched leaf, roll up then steam. Serve with your favourite dipping sauce.
Chard is really versatile!
