This company advertises in the BHM classifieds as having parts/plans for a wood-fired steam engine.

$5 for a catalog. No web presence that I can find.

Anyone sent for their catalog? Its pretty inexpensive, but $5 is $5 - I'd like to hear any thoughts pro/con before I take the gamble.

I do not know them but I did meet folks from here:

Gene Goebel of Branson, Missouri
I trust them, however they sold the business in 2004.

In case you were thinking of electric power...

Thanks David

You in Ohio? I'm up in Cleveland on the West side - not too far from Hopkins.

Not much I can really do up here in the city. Just investigating options for the future when we move somewhere more rural.

This thread http://www.backwoodshome.com/forum/yabb/forum.pl?board=ene-solar;action=display;num=1213102448 shows what I'd really like to do in the future. Trying to see if its really all that practical though.

I've briefly looked at this type of generation but decided to stay with solar panels instead. More portable in case I have to move them out of sight. South of the Airport? I'm right next to the Metroparks.

I'm between Lorain and I-90 North/South and between 117th and 140th East/West. *Don't want to be more specific on a public forum.

Nice old neighborhood (with nice old neighbors). *

Wife is from Grafton (Lorain county) - I grew up in Chardon (Geauga county). *We'd like some acreage, but both counties have been yuppified since we were kids. *By the time we look far out enough that we could buy something that is rural, and would be expected to remain so while any kids grow up - we are so far away from Cleveland that we may as well move south where the weather isn't so cold.

This thread: solar
shows what I'd really like to do in the future.

I'm in Central OH, just west of Columbus.

Interesting. Solar and wind work about the same here.
Not a lot of eigther, but enough if you have both.

I looked at steam power, Miami Valley Steam Threshers Association has the best show around. ( IMHO ;) )

Great place to learn and get to know folks that work with it full time.
