I am thinking about doing a garbage can turkey for Thankgiving. I've never done one before, but I've heard they can turn out great.

I've got the basics down for how to do it. My main question is am I going to be able to do this when it is -20F without it taking 12 hours? I plan on doing a test run this week, so I don't ruin it on the big day.

Anyone have any tips? I've heard of putting a few open beers in with the turkey, anyone do that? Any good marinading/injecting/stuffing tips?

I have never cooked a turkey before, so I figured this would be a good way to start! This won't be for a huge group, maybe 4 at the max, so I won't have too many people mad at me if I mess it up.

If anyone is experienced in this please explain the whole thing to me and some recepies.

Thanks!

No personal experience, but here's some links that should help. -Karen

As always, it's important to cook the turkey to an internal temperature of a minimum of 165°F. no matter what method used.
