I need a recipe for a fried pie dough. I have tried several different ones but they have not worked well at all. I have been using the canned biscuits since I have not been able to find a recipe that will work for me.
I have to make several pies for my church on Saturday.
Thanks!!!!

I copied this for you from Jackie Clay's article in issue 77 because i couldn't get the link to work, but you can be sure Jackie knows how to make a great pie.

Fried apple pies
Crust:
2/3 cup condensed milk or cream
1 egg, beaten
2-1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
pinch salt
Mix the milk and egg, then mix them into dry ingredients. Roll the mixture out in a rectangle, then use a large mug or some such round pattern and cut out 6-7-inch circles of pie dough. Carefully fill each with apple filling and fold the edges, pinching well. Fry in deep fryer until done. Sprinkle with powdered sugar while still warm.
You may also drizzle a glaze over them, if you wish. A good glaze can be made by simply mixing 1 cup powdered sugar, ˝ teaspoon vanilla, and a drop or two of milk—just enough to make a medium glaze.

Gypho,
I've always baked my turnovers. I bet the fried ones would be really tasty, but would probably have a higher fat content.

Yes they do. But if you use peanut oil (olive oil leaves it's own "taste") the content is lower. And they are crispier, too! Hubby loves'em! (He likes them baked, too ;))

Yummy, thanks pp for the dough recipe.
I grew sweet potatoes and pumpkins
in my square foot gardens. What a
bounty I have and will continue to receive
for awhile.
Never had pumpkin or sweet potato
fried pies so I tried them. I liked them alot.
Baked and fried them. Put a glaze of
butter on the baked ones, came out great
and crispy.

The farmer are getting in there sweet potato in now and I plan on gleaming the fields for leavings. Never cook sweet potato jacks before. How do you make the filling. Grandmother showed me how to make apple jacks- always make a batch when I start missing her.
