The following link is to an article on a low-head waterwheel that claims to be able to supply nearly all the energy needs for a conventional house with only 20cm water fall.
Might be an actual way for some to get power for nearly nothing if they live near a river or stream.

In the articles comments section one person even mentions hooking one up to the water from a downspout and generating from rainwater while another says that it could be used with the incoming "public" water in their pipes.

Interesting thoughts on power generation.

Looks promising! Maybe too promising. I hope it turns out to be as good as it sounds.

I've put my property up for sale in this overcrowded city and hope to relocate to the middle of nowhere with low taxes and off grid. A stream with a decent head is on my list of requirements.

Here we are a year later. Anyone know if this device has made it to market yet? I'd love to see the internal workings to see if I could build something that uses its principles.
