I just had to say that I love our woodstove. We had to use our propane heat last night because of some buildup in the chimney. We couldn't borrow the shopvac we needed (For some reason the men who built this house in the seventies didn't make an opening to clean the chimeny from the bottom so we have to clean it from the stovepipe hole.)so we had to make due. It was so cold in here. I am absolutely spoiled on the warmth of the woodstove.

Today, after four days of mild weather, the wind has risen and the temps have dropped ... and because there was time, decided to install the new woodstove door gasket.
Dang, I got the size that is 1/8" too large, and in closing the door, the stove actually moved a bit. Sometimes you can mess up the connection with the chimney that way, so I'm all in trepidation come fire time this evening.
One hour to dry with door closed, then cure again with a fire in the box. And 3-5 business days later, put in the PROPER size gasket, when it arrives from Lehman's. ARG.
But now I know the gasket cement needs to be warmed just a bit. It's darned stiff when cold! Doesn't goo out hardly at all.
OOohhhh, it's cold in here.

Can't hardly imagine going through a winter without it. I even enjoy cutting my own wood, truckin it back home and running it through the splitter and stacking it out under the oaks. Watching the cords grow and knowing there will be plenty for whatever comes our way. I love laying a fresh fire in the mornings as well. The smell of dry pine needles as they light up the kendling and the popping and crackeling sounds of the pine cones and tree sap. I love watching the dogs laying on their blanket in front of the stove and their stretching and rolling and loving the fire as well. I even love the smell of wet boots and socks and puppy sweaters as they dry by the stove in the evenings. Yep gal, we love our stove as well. Merry Christmas.
;D
