I have a little gripe, not a biggy though, the picture forums are just too slow for me and probaly other users who are on dial up,I had to refresh it 6 times just to get the 2 nd page.is there anyway to solve this problem, maybe a tutorial on resizing pics?btw I would like to thank bee pipes for changing mine from links to pics,I think I figured out how to do it (I hope)

I'm on dial-up too Boris. I generally tend to stay out of those forums because they are so intensive. The forums do automatically scale photos - can you imagine how slow it would be if they didn't? Here's an excerpt from the help files:

VERY IMPORTANT STUFF

Graphics 360 pixels wide or smaller will display full size. Graphics larger than 360 pixels wide are forced down to 360 pixels wide.

If your picture is larger than 360 pixels wide you should crop or resize it to 360 pixels wide. That way, it will look best when it displays in the Forum.

We have to limit the size of picture for two reasons. First, very large pictures mess up the display tables of the Forum, sometimes expanding the page until it is wide than your monitor screen. Also, the file size of oversized pictures is usually very large, and makes downloading the page for viewing very slow for folks with dial-up Internet connections.

If you have any further questions, please contact the webmaster at webmaster@backwoodshome.com.

Now, it might take time for pictures to be forced to scale - that could be adding clock ticks to screen display time - and every tick seems like an eternity in dial-up.

How long have you been on dial-up? We had high speed on cable when we lived in town. It's been about 3 or 4 years now since we changed to dial-up. Took me a while to make the transition - was really frustrating in the beginning. Now - no big deal. My wife misses it. You can't do anything with music, forget youtube, and large pictures are a pain - even on email. If they offered it in the area, my wife would jump on it in a heartbeat. Me - I could get along.

Typically, the picture hosts - photobucket, image shack, etc. will scale a picture to 600x800 when uploaded. I have gotten used to working within that and keep it in mind when taking pictures. The 360 that the forum forces is a reduction by 50%+-, so works reasonably well. The limitations of dial-up make it slow, and the best thing to do might be to browse picture intensive forums under a second navigator window or tab.

Regards,
Pat
