I didn't see anyone post on this, so I will. Over the past several days, gas has been extremely hard to find in the Middle TN area. There have been gas stations completely sold out of gas since last Friday.
They (oil companies) blame hurricane IKE for a 75% drop in production/shipment via the pipeline that serves this area. That coupled with panic buying has seen gas stations run out of gas. There are some with police tape around thew pumps with police cruisers nearby, I'm guessing to nip any tempers in the bud.
nearest estimate say that sometime in the next day or so and gas will return to the area.
Anyway, I wanted to just alert people to the situation and get everyones thoughts on it.

Friday the 12th, I had been running the gas gauge low - didn't have a reason until then to make a run to town. That evening I did and figured it would be a good idea before the huricane his Galveston/Houston. Gas had already risen from $3.69 to $3.99 and there was a 10 gallon limit per customer. By Saturday it had risen to $5.00 a gallon. It has now fallen back down to $4 and some change, I found a place for $3.79 today. News shows Nashville is having problems. We seem to be keeping a supply out here in Perry County, but the few stations here are owned by a small number of people and they seem to be milking a cash cow. I checked yesterday and found that only two stations here in the county are owned by county residents. They haven't got the best prices, but that's where I'll be spending my money. We are retired and had limited our travel before this even became an issue. We'll wait it out, but my sympathies go to the folks commuting to work. News also showed Atlanta. Bad news for such a large population.
Expect to get sucker punched by taxes - cost money to keep all the police cars, school buses and other gov't vehicles on the road. Groceries have gone up along with almost everything else.
Regards,
Pat

According to what I've heard on the news today, somewhere between 60-80% of gas stations are still dry in the Mid-Tn area. I've heard that it extends for about a 40-mile radius from Nashville.
We went to our youngest son's cross country meet in Milton and there were some stations with gas and some without.
We go to a small, local grocery that has a couple of gas pumps. They are off the beaten path, but have gas. I also keep a small (1 week) supply at our house for situations like these.
Anyway, glad to hear that you all aren't that affected.

We've had a few stations out here in west central Georgia also.
The stations that had gas for $3.99 were out. The ones that had it for $4.19 had some to share. As soon as people saw that stations were out, they made a run on the others.
