We are going to build an out side detached kitchen of sorts for canning in the summer. I am thinking I will get a gas burner on which to use my pressure canner and saw 2 different one in Northern Tool and equipment, one is 15 thous BTU the other is 35 thous BTU, which would be better for canning? My canner is the one that holds 2 layers of 7 quart jars. I am not at all familiar with gas out put, but maybe some of you can give me some input form your thoughts or experience. So question, which will be better 15 or 35 thous BTU for my plan? As for this building if all goes well it will be designed so it can be used like a greenhouse in spring, canning kitchen in summer and a place to hang deer, beef, and hog meat in fall and winter. Thanks for any advice. :-/
Are you talking about the big burner like they use under a turkey fryer?
Keep in mind, once the pressure cooker is up to temp, you turn the heat waay down to keep the steam at the right pressure, so you don't need a big burner for that.
My big turkey fryer burner is kinda hard to keep adjusted on the low side, it's made to make a lot of heat for a fryer, so i'm not sure it would be much fun to try to can with it?
My outdoor kitchen has a two burner, cast steel counter top stove. I like it pretty good for cooking and i think it's a better choise for a canner. They are also made in 3 burner and maybe even in a single burner?
You can buy them from Harbor Freight and many other places...

Thanks for the info, I agree the turkey fryer burner probably would not be a good choice, bet the burner I was looking at sat on a counter top (out doors) for cooking in a skillet or pan. I just wasnt sure if the 15 thousand BTU would be hot enough to get the canner up to temp without taking a rediculous amount of fuel. The stove top you have may be close to what I was looking at, more or less moveable? I will check out Harbor Freight, I think we have a catalog here somewhere. Thanks again.

I believe the common sized burner on a gas stove is rated at 10,000 BTU.

So I would be good with a 15000BTU burner for a pressure canner. Those can be had for about 20 bucks from Northern tools. Thanks for all the input, I think Im good to go.
