Hello. I too own a diesel generator DG 6LN (from China) It runs perfect but here we are on Vancouver Island and the worst winter that anyone can remember, it is not giving out any power at all, well 3 volts. I work on furnaces for a living and think it may be the voltage regulator of the Capsitor? I am just guessing. If ever I needed it to be working was now as we have just had another storm and lost power for 7 days the last storm. *Any info would be greatly appreicated. If any of you need any help with furnace problems, *please feel free to ask me as would be only to happy to help. Thank you, in advance. The HVAC Man.

I had a similar problem. The factory engineer thought that it was the voltage regulator. Turned out that all my genny needed was a wire running from the positive terminal of the battery to the positive terminal (red wire) on the backside of the generator for 1-2 minutes. Worked like a charm. Good luck.

jajbellsouthnet. Thank you for reply. I will give that a try and let you know if it does the trick. Do I run the engine for 2 to 3 mins with the wire conected? Again, thank you. HVAC....

The engine does not have to be running to do this. I left the wire connected for 3-4 minutes. The first time I made the connection, I got a significant spark. Might have set off any hydrogen had any been present. I recommend hooking the battery end up first and then hooking up the generator positive terminal. Anyway, I instinctively jerked the wire off when I got the big spark. Second time, nothing. My guess is that whatever needed to happen, happened instantly. If this doesn't work and you can't smell anything burnt, my guess would be that the voltage regulator is bad. On mine, the voltage regulator appears to be mounted behind the access panel on the rear of the generator. I believe it is the gadget with the red and white wires attached to it. Good luck.

jajbellsouthnet. Thanks again for the info. I have just got in from work, so I will give it a try tomorrow. I will post back how I make out. Cheers for now. HVAC...

I just finished fixing a riding lawnmower and a record player that had been abandoned because of "can't be fixed" problems. Turned out that the cure for both was a very minor adjustment. Neutral position shifter adustment on the mower and tone arm weight adjustment on the record player. All of which made me think about what could be wrong with your generator and one thing came immediately to mind. Are all of the connections tight? A loose connection to the voltage regulator might well give you a "low voltage/current only" connection. Any connection (and there are more than a few) anywhere in the voltage regulation circuit could have the same result. My experience is that unless there was fire, sparks and/or lots of mechanical noise, the problem is something really simple like a loose nut or spade lug.
Good Luck,
John

jajbellsouthnet. Got it working today. It ended up being a burnt wire on the capacitor (which I replaced) The capacitor was located behind the exhaust system. I took a photo of the capacitor if anyone needs to see it for future help. Anyway, all the best everyone for 2007 and thank you for your help. Regards HVAC...
