A few weeks ago, I began reading a book titled EMERGENCY POWER For Radio Communications by Michael Bryce and published by the ARRL.

While obviously aimed at amateur radio (ham) operators, it provides a very informative resource for anyone interested in alternative electricity generation.

The book is NOT written with the assumption that the reader knows NOTHING about electricity but, it's close.

It starts out with Flashlights and Batteries, Cyalume sticks, Coleman lanterns and Candles then progresses through Solar Panels, Generators, Windmills, Storage (battery banks) and more.
It's very well written, in laymans (plain English) terms and easy to read. Many diagrams, schematics and pics are provided.

In closing, I wouldn't be surprised if the author is among us. There are a number of referances to preparedness throughout the book and even a Chapter 12 dedicated to much of what we discuss here.

I highly recommend it as an addition to any library.

Thanks for the info Rob! I'll head on over to the library after school today and see if I can find a copy - this is the kind of info I really need, as I truly know zip about electricity/fuel/etc. and it scares me - perhaps this book will help!
