OK, my brand new model 23 stainless steel Aladdin Lamp just arrived. *The pre-burnt wick was already attached so I filled her up, with clean K1, waited the 1 hour so the capillary action would take place with the wick and fired her up. *The wick didn't burn evenly to my way of thinking but had 4 or 5, *1/8" *high points of flame. *After about 10 minutes of allowing the burner to warm up but I still had the high points of flame and when turned it up higher to allow for reading it would make black spots on the mantle. *I received a real cheesy plastic wick trimmer and have trimmed the wick a couple of times according to instructions but I still get the high points of flame. *

My question is, is this normal operating to be expected? *I'm using it at the hot tub for a reading light *but it doesn't seem to make the 60 W of light as advertised. *Suggestions would be appreciated. *Oh yeah, comments about my butt rubbing all the stain off the tub deck arn't necessary however it does give ya the red a$$.

After a good talking to by Annie I decided to crank the wick all the way down, remove the wick spreader and with a small sharp pair of sisors I trimmed the wick clockwise and level. Seems to have taken care of the problem and is now bright enough to read by in a dark room.

I've had good results with using a razor blade, with the spreader removed, and trimming the wick that way also. It'll work OK for a while but.. :-/

What is your altitude? If you're up over 4,000ft you will want the taller chimney or a chimney extension. I'm at 5300ft and it really made a difference.
