Did a google last night looking for 12v heat tape, to prevent waterlines from freezing. Discovered a world of conflicting, confusing & some obviously bogus information. I did a search of these forums with NO results.

Cut to the chase: Does anyone have a link for practical, functional, affordable 12v heat tape?

Thanks in advance.

I found this link that talks about cutting and so on. I'd probably try it and test it out somewhere safe and also add a fuse to the assembly.

Probably a better alternative would be a small inverter (think vehicle cigarette plug style) and use a normal heat tape setup. I think you can find those inverters fairly cheap at Harbor Freight or similar stores.

P.S. What is it for if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks guys!
Both options are viable.
MadTripper, your search found more than mine. I never saw that link on google. Did you use 'dogpile' or something else? I'll admit I didn't open every link in googles 12pg result, but I'd have remembered these folks.

And to answer your Q: Its for the water trap under a remote cabin sink. Freezing probably wouldn't burst an open ended pipe, but a blockage would be inconvenient.
I'm searching for solutions to problems that don't exist yet. I begin construction as soon as the snow melts!

Thanks again guys.

I'm stuck on Google pretty much. I like how it is plain Jane so it loads quick and the advertisements aren't all that intrusive. Let us know what you decide. You might be able to use a combination of insulation to keep that from freezing. I would think as long as the wind isn't hitting it directly it wouldn't freeze with some insulation. Perhaps porting some of your space heat into an insulated box that surrounds the trap would be an option as well.
